Baking Set

How can I prevent my cookies from burning on the bottom?

Even though the cookie tops don’t appear over-baked, the bottoms still look too dark or almost burned.

There can be a number of things that cause cookies to turn too dark or even burn on the bottom. It’s always a good idea to bake only one or two cookies before baking an entire batch so you can experiment with baking times and oven temperatures. When using a “convection” setting (as opposed to a “conventional” bake setting), it’s often a good idea to reduce the heat a few degrees, or remove the cookies from the oven a little sooner. As others have mentioned, parchment paper might be helpful, as well as learning which rack (middle or top) produces the most even baking results. Lastly, using light-colored baking sheets rather than dark-colored baking sheets seems to help prevent the bottoms from turning too dark.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your next batch!
